When does VA pay disability compensation?
VA pays at the start of each month for the month before. VA's award attachment says: “Thereafter, your payments will be made at the beginning of each month for the prior month.”
When the 1st falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment comes early, never late. Federal law (38 U.S.C. 5120(e)) says that if the 1st is a Saturday or Sunday, VA pays on the Friday before. If the 1st is a legal public holiday, VA pays on the weekday before it.

VA does not post a 2027 payment calendar on VA.gov, so these dates are calculated, not announced. Your bank may post the deposit at a different time of day. Check your VA payment history on VA.gov for the date of each actual payment.
* OPM lists Friday, December 31, 2027 as the observed New Year's Day holiday for most federal employees. The law still points to the Friday before a Saturday 1st, so we show December 31. Check your payment history if it arrives on a different day.

FAQ
Which payment covers which month?
Each payment covers the month before. The payment on February 1, 2027 is for January 2027.
Why do some months get two payments, and January none?
When a payment comes early, it can land at the end of the same month as the previous one. In 2027 that happens in April and July, and in December (one on December 1 and one on December 31). January 2027 has no payment date because the December 2026 payment arrives on December 31, 2026.
Does this apply to my first payment?
No. VA's award attachment says you should receive your funds within 15 days, and that “thereafter” payments are made at the beginning of each month for the prior month, as shown above.
